Uplifting words and images are the under-painting in this piece. This is an homage to my home in rural Northern California. The dreamy scene in the shadowbox is of our hill, with our cows and the redwood forest at the top. It is also an homage to love, of home, and of life. The spectacular, beautiful pink Amaryllis Belladonna flowers (also known as Naked Ladies) emerge for only 2 weeks every August. By then, the pastures and hillsides are brown, and it’s as if they know their exquisite beauty will be set off perfectly in this summer landscape. I love combining abstract imagery with impressionistic or realistic images, as seen here. And vibrant color, always. This, to me, is modern country.
As always, virtual images and various monitors do not do justice to the depth and vibrancy of the actual painting. All my paintings are varnished, and all sides painted (if not already framed).
